Aldo van Eyck: Seventeen 18, 19... Playgrounds
A research project by Denisa Kollarová and Anna van Lingen on the work of the Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck (1918-1999), designer of hundreds of playgrounds in Amsterdam between the 1950s and 1970s, characterised by simple metal structures and concrete elements in which children could develop their own autonomy and creativity through play. The research began as a mapping of the few spaces still present in the Amsterdam cityscape, as part of the Graphic Design course at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie; Kollarová and van Lingen visited various locations and spent hours at these remaining playgrounds, talking to the playing children and their parents, took photographs and videos…
This book gathers their notes and observations, along with texts by Francis Strauve, Tobias Krasenberg, Paul Lappia, Jonáš Verešpej, Harm Stevens, Tess van Eyck. It was first by Lecturis (NL) in 2015.
