Il est, nous dit Tom Overton, comme son autoportrait. Il est, pourrait-on dire aussi, son histoire de l'art. Le reste se passe derri&egrave;re les rideaux : c'est l'hommage que nous lui rendons.<br />Peu importe que ce livre en r&eacute;alit&eacute; ne soit pas exactement un livre de John Berger. Qu'il soit aussi un d&eacute;tournement. Un d&eacute;tournement d&rsquo;&eacute;diteur. Que tout y soit un peu faux, presque compl&egrave;tement machin&eacute;. Que tout ou presque y ait &eacute;t&eacute; arrach&eacute; &agrave; son contexte, d&eacute;plac&eacute;, num&eacute;rot&eacute;. Qu'ici des morceaux aient &eacute;t&eacute; isol&eacute;s, pr&eacute;lev&eacute;s &agrave; un roman, d&rsquo;autres &agrave; une pi&egrave;ce de th&eacute;&acirc;tre, &agrave; une correspondance. Que d&rsquo;autres encore soient des fragments d&rsquo;une monographie plus importante, ou des fragments constitu&eacute;s d&eacute;j&agrave; mont&eacute;s, autrement, par John Berger lui-m&ecirc;me dans d&rsquo;autres anthologies. Que le titre ne soit pas tout &agrave; fait le titre, qu'il ait d&eacute;tr&ocirc;n&eacute; l&rsquo;auteur, lequel s&rsquo;est gliss&eacute; ailleurs. Dans ce lieu sans date o&ugrave; les vivants et les morts cohabitent. Ce point du temps o&ugrave; s&rsquo;&eacute;crit toute vie. Il s'agit du texte d'une conf&eacute;rence qu'il donna &agrave; la Sorbonne en janvier 1926, o&ugrave; il semble tenter de condenser sa pens&eacute;e notamment sur les questions d'esth&eacute;tique. Un texte sur la cr&eacute;ation artistique, sur l'intuition, sur la force de l'imagination, cr&eacute;atrice de formes.</p> <p>Le livre propose, en bonus, un autre texte in&eacute;dit de Carl Einstein, celui-l&agrave; traduit de l'allemand.
