DELISS, Clémentine
The Metabolic Museum

Part-memoir, part-essay, The Metabolic Museum is a stimulating book, in which curator Clémentine Deliss reflects on her own work as the Director of Frankfurt’s Weltkulturen Museum (Museum of World Cultures). She recounts her collaborations with artists, filmmakers, or writers, and her experiments with(in) the institution; and also unfolds the concepts and ideas that were an integral part of her engagement with the museum’s history. The book opens with a “Manifesto for the Post-Ethnographic Museum” and closes with a timely “Manifesto for Rights of Access to Colonial Collections Sequestered in Western Europe”… Deliss then introduces the Metabolic Museum as an interventionist laboratory for remediating ethnographic collections for future generations!
